Global prestige skincare brand SK-II has launched its first standalone concept store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ushering in a new era of PITERA experiences. Blending heritage with innovation, the experiential retail store showcases how craftsmanship and skincare science come together to create a renowned skincare journey.

A STAR-STUDDED GRAND OPENING

The grand opening on Jun 22 featured special guest and global brand ambassador Mina from global girl group Twice, alongside American social media personality and registered nurse Miki Rai and Vietnamese actress and singer Chi Pu. Regional content creators from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia were also present to celebrate this Southeast Asian debut.

Mina delighted attendees with her visit to the store, interacted with fans during a private meet-and-greet session and explored SK-II offerings, including her favourite – the Facial Treatment Essence.

Located at Mid Valley Megamall, the store invites visitors to discover SK-II’s award-winning products and the transformative power of PITERA.

A SKINCARE SANCTUARY THAT BLENDS INNOVATION AND HERITAGE

Inspired by the youthful hands of sake brewers, SK-II scientists in the 1970s sought to uncover the secret to their beautiful skin. Years of research led to the discovery of PITERA, a yeast strain central to SK-II’s success.

The store honours this legacy with the Sugidama Tester Bar, named after traditional sugidamas (cedar balls symbolising the passage of time), which represent the meticulous research behind PITERA. The sugidamas, painted in bright shades of crimson, form the base of a tabletop adorned with an intricate design inspired by unique rice patterns arranged by Toji masters, reminiscent of a tranquil Zen garden.

The interactive tester bar is inspired by sugidama balls, a nod to the significance of time in the fermentation process and craftsmanship of PITERA.

Four striking sculptures, each reflecting an SK-II skincare line, offer an artful interaction with products like the iconic Facial Treatment Essence, the prestigious LXP line, the GenOptics brightening series and the SKINPOWER anti-ageing collection. Crafted by ceramic artist Yuki Ando from Shiga, the birthplace of PITERA, these pieces deepen the connection to SK-II’s heritage.

Throughout the store, visitors can enjoy a therapeutic experience with hinoki wood patterns and the relaxing scents of Japanese cypress, hinoki wood and sandalwood.

LUXURIATE IN JAPANESE HOSPITALITY

A true Japanese experience would not be complete without omotenashi, the spirit of mindful hospitality. At the SK-II concept store, visitors are greeted with exceptional care and pampering skincare rituals.

A hot towel service prepares hands, followed by an introduction to the signature Facial Treatment Essence, enhanced by a soothing hand massage.

Guests can also experience the Magic Scan to discover their skin age. This detailed analysis highlights skin strengths and areas of concern, providing personalised product recommendations for a flawless complexion.

SK-II’s Magic Scan allows visitors to discover their skin age, guided by SK-II’s skin experts who are committed to providing omotenashi-inspired service.

A dedicated gifting counter offers lavish wrapping services – perfect for sharing PITERA’s wonders with loved ones.

“This first-ever SK-II concept store in Kuala Lumpur marks a momentous milestone for the house of SK-II. Consumers are at the heart of all we do at SK-II, and this is a testament to our commitment to elevating skincare experiences,” said Ms Sue Kyung Lee, president of P&G Global Skin and Personal Care.
