Angelina Jolie has dropped her ex-husband’s last name following her divorce from Brad Pitt, reported People on Tuesday (Apr 16).

The marriage between Pitt, 55, and Jolie, 43, was officially terminated last Friday (Apr 12).

The actress, who had added Pitt to her legal name following the couple's marriage in August 2014, had her ex's surname removed as part of her divorce, reported ET.

Court documents obtained by ET show that, as part of the dissolution of the stars' union, the 43-year-old actress' name was officially restored to simply Angelina Jolie.

The former couple first met in 2004, a year before Pitt divorced his then-wife Jennifer Aniston. The couple shares six children – Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-old Vivienne and Knox.

The move to change her name comes as Jolie is readying a return to the big screen this fall, reported People. The Oscar winner is set to reprise her title role in Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, alongside Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer. Filming for the sequel took place in London and wrapped last year.

Jolie is also continuing her advocacy work and recently spoke at the United Nations for her Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI), which aims to curb rape as a weapon in both war and among those fleeing it.
