Creamier ice-cream cafe to reopen in Toa Payoh with social enterprise twist
The local dessert and coffee joint is reopening on Oct 8 across the road from its previous location, and is partnering The Food Bank Singapore.
Local ice-cream and coffee cafe Creamier closed its Toa Payoh outlet in June this year but it announced on Thursday (Sep 26) that it’s set to reopen – right across the road from its former space.
The soft opening launch for the new Block 131 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 outlet is on Oct 8, with the official opening set to take place on Nov 19.
Apart from serving its popular handcrafted ice-cream and waffles creations, the new store has also taken on a social enterprise spin. It is partnering The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) to co-create a space for The Food Pantry 2.0.
The cafe will be divided into two areas: The new Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee, and PIKO, short for pick-and-go, which is the socially-oriented partnership between Creamier and FBSG.
PIKO will feature fully automated smart vending machines that will distribute food aid to beneficiaries around the clock in an effort to optimise the use of excess food.
The Food Pantry 2.0 will stock food with a shorter shelf life of up to four weeks, priced at S$2 each. Items include frozen meals, beverages and snacks. The space will also act as a distribution point for free emergency food to its beneficiaries.
Said Creamier founder Khoh Wan Chin: “Through the sponsorship of space and utilities for the Food Pantry vending machines in this pilot programme, we aim to contribute towards the fight against food hunger and food wastage. Hopefully this is the start of a new eco-system of how businesses co-work with social enterprises to contribute back to community.”
Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee is at Block 131 Toa Payoh Lorong 1, #01-02, Singapore 310131. Opening hours are 12pm to 10pm Tuesdays to Thursdays and Sundays; 12pm to 11pm Fridays to Saturdays; closed on Mondays.
