Ice cream chain Creamier launches doughnuts with flavours including laksa and s'mores

The Donuts by Creamier range also includes classic options such as sugared and glazed doughnuts. But where's the fun in that?

Homegrown F&B chain Creamier is best known for its ice cream and waffles, but it has now launched a new range of house-made doughnuts at its outlets islandwide. Called Donuts by Creamier, the range offers six sweet and savoury flavours.

8days.sg checks out the the treats, and tells you which ones are good to order.

THE FLAVOURS

According to Creamier’s co-founder Khoh Wan Chin, the brand is offering doughnuts as they are “comfort food” like ice cream. There are also plans to launch an all-day brunch concept later this month with savoury dishes at Creamier’s East Coast Road cafe.

For doughnuts, there is a cheeky Laksa Mai Hum (S$5), which is inspired by Katong laksa, plus the local-inspired Sea Salt Gula Melaka (S$4), Christmas-themed Peppermint Candy Crush (S$4) and S’mores (S$4). If you don’t fancy mod flavours, there are also classic picks like Cinnamon Sugar (S$2.90) and Sugar Glazed (S$2.90).

We are tickled by its name (remember “mee siam mai hum?”), and this hum-less "laksa" doughnut comes with a chunky chicken filling that reminds us more of chicken curry than laksa. But it’s pretty fun to gnaw through the fluffy, slightly crispy fried doughnut to get to the lemak-enough filling (which we could do with more of).

There are lots of funky doughnut flavours on the market these days, but we tend to like the very basic sugared ring doughnut. Creamier’s version is delish. Crispy and firm to the bite with a soft pillowy middle and subtly sweet-fragrant hit of cinnamon and sugar. Delightful. We could wolf down two or three of these in one sitting.

Like the Cinnamon Sugar doughnut, this is just as addictive. The same ring doughnut is dipped in a simple sugar glaze, so it makes for a sweeter-than-usual treat, but still satisfying and charmingly nostalgic.

This dark chocolate glazed doughnut is sprinkled with bits of crushed peppermint candy cane for a minty hit. It’s more interesting than a regular ol’ choc flavour, but we find this too saccharine for adults. The kids will demolish it, though.

We find this the prettiest doughnut out of the six flavours. The choc-glazed ring is crowned with torched marshmallow fluff. It’s not as rustic as a classic s’more (which has chocolate and marshmallow sandwiched between graham crackers and toasted), though it makes for a nice cheat day dessert with the airy, whipped cream-like marshmallow.

Creamier fans may recognise this ice cream flavour at its shops, and it now comes in a doughnut form. The ring doughnut is draped in a caramelly palm sugar glaze spiked with a bit of sea salt and topped with crunchy toasted coconut flakes. We like this moreish sweet-salty combination with a fun crunch.

Donuts by Creamier are available from Nov 8 at all Creamier outlets.
