You can’t fly to Hong Kong for the foreseeable future to enjoy the city’s yummy cuisines but you can do the next best thing and head to Joy Luck Teahouse when it opens its takeaway kiosk on Friday (Aug 28) at ION Orchard.

The cha chaan teng (Hong Kong-style cafe) will sell popular food items from three iconic Hong Kong F&B brands: Hoover Cake Shop, Kam Kee Cafe and Tak Hing Fish Ball Company.

From Hoover Cake Shop, you can enjoy two types of egg tarts: a puff pastry and a butter cookie type. The puff pastry version is said to be similar to a croissant but with flakier layers, while the butter cookie has a firm crust.

There’s also the pineapple bun from Kam Kee Cafe, which comes with different fillings such as kaya and luncheon meat. Or you can just enjoy the classic bo lo yau with a thick slab of butter.

Wash it all down with some Hong Kong-style milk tea, also from Kam Kee Cafe, said to be a favourite of singer-actor Dicky Cheung. There's also an exclusive to Singapore bubble tea called Pearl of the Orient, which comes in a collagen version too.

The freshly made fish paste doesn’t use any flour or additives and is made from a mixture of rice field eel and yellowtail croaker.

The eatery also offers plenty of other Hong Kong-style drinks and desserts to keep your longing for the city at bay until you get to travel again.
