Li Nanxing will cook late mum’s specialties for Mother’s Day at Fullerton Hotel
The actor will present Peranakan and Teochew dishes from his childhood, such as black ink squid and fried tau kwa with leeks.
Although veteran actor Li Nanxing lost his mum seven years ago, he’ll still be honouring her this Mother’s Day – by presenting her favourite recipes that formed an integral part of his childhood.
From May 3 to 19, he’ll be sharing five of her best dishes at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore’s Town Restaurant as part of its Mother’s Day buffet specials.
These include plates that reflect his Teochew-Peranakan heritage: Sotong Masak Hitam or black ink squid; fried tau kwa with leeks; assam fish; sambal petai prawn; and his take on mala chicken, fried and glazed with a special blend of sweet dark soy sauce, oyster sauce and tomato sauce, then tossed with red peppercorns. For dessert, there’ll be his version of a traditional Chinese white fungus soup with gingko nuts, barley and lotus seeds.
And on Mother’s Day itself (May 12), guests will get to see him in action as he dons chef’s whites to whip up one of his signature dishes.
“Everyone has favourite dishes and flavours that are etched in our hearts and memories forever. For me, my fondest memories are of the home-cooked food my mother used to prepare during special occasions. Those dishes brought me much comfort and joy when growing up and through adulthood. They gave me a feeling of home. As we celebrate love and family on Mother’s Day, I would like to share a taste of (my) home with everyone,” said the actor.
“A Special Mother’s Day with Li Nanxing” gourmet promotion at Town Restaurant will be available from May 3 to 19, 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm daily. The dinner buffet is priced at S$59++ per adult and S$30++ per child (aged six to 11) from Sunday to Thursday with the exception of May 12, Sunday; priced at $89++ per adult and S$44++ per child on May 12, Sunday; priced at S$85++ per adult and S$43++ per child on Friday and Saturday.
