While we await Bake Cheese Tart’s pop-up this December, Japanese cookie brand Sugar Butter Tree will be making its debut in Singapore this Sep 20, at a pop-up counter in Takashimaya’s basement food hall.

These cookies are brought in by Grape Stone, the same company behind the very popular Japanese souvenir snack, Tokyo Banana.

Sugar Butter Tree cookies are described as "butter cereal cookies", with a biscuit base made from a mixture of cereal grains, whole grains and rye.

The crumbly, buttery treats are typically layered with a white chocolate cream filling, though seasonal flavours like pistachio and burnt butter caramel are available in Japan.

For its launch in Singapore, only the original white choc-flavoured cookies will be available here, and sold in packs of either seven pieces (S$11) or 14 pieces (S$21). That’s around twice the price of what you’d pay in Japan Sugar Butter Tree’s website lists it at ¥572 (S$5.20) for seven pieces, and ¥1,134 (S$10.31) for a 14-piece pack. Still cheaper than buying an air ticket, we guess.

A bite-sized version of the cookie, called (and we dare you to recite this quickly) "Sugar Butter Sand Tree Almond Chocolate" will also be sold at the pop-up counter.

Similar to the OG cookies, these are made with six types of cereal grains, albeit smaller and wrapped around an almond chocolate nut filling. They will be sold here at S$24 for eight small packets.

Sugar Butter Tree will be available from Sep 20 at B2 Takashimaya Food Hall, 391 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238872.
