Malaysian actress and singer Adibah Noor died on Jun 18 in Kuala Lumpur of ovarian cancer.

The 51-year-old was widely beloved and frequently referred to by her peers as one of Malaysia's legends.

The Star reported that it was actor AC Mizal and his wife who shared the news of her death. "Yes, it is true that Adibah Noor passed away at the hospital. I got the news from Datuk Zainal Abidin's wife as we are close friends with the late Adibah," Mizal's wife Emylia Rosnaida told mStar, The Star's Malay-language daily.

Celebrities in Malaysia and Singapore hastened to pay tribute to the actress, recalling her talent and warm personality.

Singaporean actor Suhaimi Yusof made a post on Instagram in honour of her, referring to her as his "close, old friend".

And Singapore TV personality Shahrizal Salleh, also known as Chef Bob, wrote of her, "She (was) a mega star. I was nobody. She treated me like I was her best friend."

Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander, recalling how she performed at his wedding in 2010, wrote on Instagram, “I’m in shock. True shock. Every time I spoke about @adibahnoormohdomar I always, always declared she was one of the BEST and TRUEST vocalists EVER... In her career, she was a perfectionist sometimes and wouldn’t stand for fools – but she was always professional and delivered when called upon."

Adibah entered the entertainment industry in 1995 after working as an English teacher and at a corporate job. She acted in more than 15 movies, numerous television dramas and several theatre productions, and has three albums to her name.
