BTS, Blackpink, Monsta X nab multiple Mnet Asian Music Awards nominations
The hashtag #MAMAVOTE was the No 1 trending on Twitter worldwide for several hours as fans got busy voting for their favourite artists.
The official nominees for the upcoming 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) have been announced and fans have started voting for their favourites.
Over 3m tweets have included the hashtag #MAMAVOTE since the nominees were announced on Thursday evening (Oct 24), making it the No 1 trending on Twitter for several hours.
Certain categories out of the 18 that will be presented at the awards show will take into consideration fan votes, hence the flurry of activity.
For example, Artist of the Year and Artist Category Awards will be calculated by 30 per cent votes, 30 per cent judging panel, 20 per cent digital song sales, and 20 per cent physical song sales.
Among the top nominees is boyband BTS, who is nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Worldwide Fans' Choice, Best Male Group and Best Dance Performance Male Group.
Band member Min Yoon-gi, or Suga, also received two nods in the Best Collaboration category for Song Request (featuring Suga) and We Don't Talk Together by Heize, which he produced.
Other popular acts that received multiple nominations include Monsta X, who appeared in the same categories as BTS, as well as girl group, Blackpink, who also got nods in the Best Female Group and Best Dance Performance – Female categories.
The rest of the categories include Best Vocal Performance by both a solo artist and group, Best Hip Hop & Urban Music, Best Collaboration and Best OST, or original soundtrack.
The 2019 MAMA will take place on Dec 4 at the Nagoya Dome in Nagoya, Japan.
Fans can vote for their favourites on the Mnet site from now until Dec 3, 11.59pm Korean time.
