BTS wants a Grammy award to complete ‘final part’ of American journey
Band member Suga says in an interview, "Being successful and being a hit in the US is, of course, such an honour as an artist".
K-pop sensation BTS is already one of the biggest bands in the world. The seven-member group has achieved great success not just in South Korea, but also around the world and significantly, in the US, where they recently picked up two American Music Awards.
They’ve also won at the Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
However, there’s one US-based award that has eluded them so far – a Grammy. In the new winter issue of Esquire, the boys talked about achieving that dream.
RM said in the Esquire interview: "We would like to be nominated (for a Grammy) and possibly get an award. I think the Grammys are the last part, like the final part of the whole American journey. So yeah, we’ll see”.
The 2021 Grammy nominations will be announced on Tuesday (Nov 24).
BTS’ album, Love Yourself: Tear, was nominated for a Grammy in 2019 for best recording package but didn’t win. The category honours album cover, graphic arts and photography, and is awarded to the art director.
Suga added in the Esquire interview: "When I dreamed of becoming an artist, I listened to pop and watched all the awards shows in the United States. Being successful and being a hit in the US is, of course, such an honour as an artist. I feel very proud of that”.
BTS released their fifth studio album, BE, on Nov 20. The hit song, Dynamite, is included in the new album.
