Kawaii combination: Cherry blossoms and Hello Kitty at Gardens by the Bay
The annual sakura display is now on at the Flower Dome – with a little help from the famous character.
Experience a bit of Japan in Singapore as Gardens by the Bay holds its popular sakura display – with a little help from Hello Kitty this year.
The famous character makes her debut at the garden in the Sakura Featuring Hello Kitty floral display at the Flower Dome from Mar 1 (Monday).
Walk through the torii gates then spot the popular character in various settings including at a hanami (flower viewing) picnic, a nodate (outdoor tea ceremony) and a Japanese-style landscaped garden – all while taking in the beauty of cherry blossoms.
According to Gardens by the Bay, there were disruptions in the shipping industry that affected the supply of cherry blossom trees from Europe. Despite this, said Marziah Omar, Senior Assistant Director of Conservatory Operations, “we are doing our best to make sure that we continue to present this popular floral display to our visitors”.
“We are still hopeful that the larger cherry blossom trees from Europe will arrive later. When that happens, we will incorporate them into the display and our visitors will get the bonus opportunity to enjoy an extended sakura season this year,” she added.
If you want to immerse yourself further in Japanese culture, you can attend numerous cultural programmes (some paid and some free) organised in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Singapore’s Japan Creative Centre.
These include traditional folk music and dance at the Flower Field Hall, and Japanese tea demonstrations and ikebana workshops at the Waterview Room. Pre-booking is required. Check here for more information.
The Sakura Featuring Hello Kitty floral display is now on at Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay from 9am to 9pm daily. Admission charges to Flower Dome apply.
