Actress Dakota Johnson calls out Ellen Degeneres for missing her birthday party

Dakota Johnson appeared on The Ellen Show recently where the actress called out the talk show host for insisting that she wasn't invited to Johnson's 30th birthday party. Awkward!

Host Ellen Degeneres began by wishing the actress a happy belated birthday during the episode that aired on Wednesday (Nov 27); Johnson replied that her birthday was on Oct 4. 

When Denegeres asked how was the party and threw shade that she wasn’t invited to the bash, Johnson pointedly replied, “Actually, no, that’s not the truth. Ellen, you were invited. No, last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of sh** about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited."

The talk show host replied, “Well, who wouldn’t want to be invited to a party?" 

Degeneres also sounded sceptical that she was given an invitation, even asking Johnson, "Are you sure?" to which the 50 Shades star replied, “Ask everybody – ask Johnathan, your producer."

She insisted: "But I did invite you, and you didn't come."

A member of Denegeres' crew then responded behind the scenes that she was out of town, prompting the host to quip, “Oh yeah, I had that thing."

She added, “It [the party] was probably in Malibu. That’s too far for me to go to.”

Internet sleuths later uncovered that during the weekend of the Peanut Butter Falcon actress' party, Degeneres had attended a baseball game in Texas where she was photographed hanging out with former US President George W Bush, an event that drew a lot of criticism.

The clip of the interview has since gone viral over the holiday weekend in the US with fans on Twitter having a field day with the playfully awkward exchange. One fan posted, "dakota johnson on ellen is exactly how some of my dates go."
