Cool news: Frozen 2 is officially the highest grossing animated film in history
The sequel to the 2013 hit has generated US$1.325 billion (S$1.79 billion) globally, putting it ahead of its predecessor with US$1.281 billion and Incredibles 2 with US$1.243 billion.
The Frozen gang has scored a cool achievement – the 2019 sequel to the 2013 hit is now the highest grossing animated film of all time.
Disney said Frozen 2 has generated US$1.325 billion (S$1.79 billion) globally, beating out its predecessor, which raked in US$1.281 billion, and Incredibles 2 with US$1.243 billion.
The studio is now responsible for the top three animated films ever released.
The follow-up to the 2013 hit sees Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel return to voice the main characters, siblings Anna and Elsa, respectively. Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff also return as Olaf the snowman and Kristoff.
Frozen 2 was also the studio’s sixth release in 2019 to reach US$1 billion in box office takings; Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is set to become the seventh, making Disney responsible for the most number of billion-dollar films from one studio in a year.
Last year's The Lion King remake grossed US$1.65 billion, however, Disney considers it a live-action reboot and not an animated film.
