South Korean actors Han So-hee and Ryu Jun-yeol have broken up, reported South Korean media EDaily on Saturday (Mar 30).

The breakup comes just two weeks after the two publicly announced their relationship.

Han’s agency 9ATO Entertainment told Edaily: “The two both found their roles as actors to be more important. They promised to no longer be emotionally exhausted with their personal life.”

They added that Han was sorry for how she handled the situation and will accept any criticism she receives.

“Above all, the agency is greatly responsible for not looking after its actor. The agency is reflecting on failing to properly play its role. Although it is very late, we will go on to right things from now on,” said 9ATO Entertainment.

Meanwhile, Ryu’s agency C-JeS Entertainment confirmed the breakup, adding: “We ask for your understanding as we have nothing else to say except to confirm the breakup.”

On Mar 16, Han confirmed the relationship on her personal blog while Ryu’s agency issued a statement.

This was a day after their respective agencies denied the dating rumours, which sparked after the pair were reportedly seen vacationing together in Hawaii.

Netizens had accused them of having a “transit relationship" as Ryu had just been in a seven-year relationship with singer-actress Hyeri, which is said to have ended in November 2023.

Ryu and Han are both said to be reviewing lead roles in the drama series Delusion, an adaptation of a webtoon of the same name. The horror period drama follows an artist who is commissioned to paint a portrait of a mysterious woman at the hotel where she is staying.

Han most recently starred in the Netflix period thriller Gyeongseong Creature. Besides that, she is also known for her roles in The World Of The Married, Nevertheless and My Name.

Ryu was named Best Actor for his role as a visually disabled royal acupuncturist in the period mystery drama The Night Owl at the Baeksang Arts Awards in April 2023. Notably, he was in K-drama Reply 1988, which also starred Hyeri.
