Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander, who recently confirmed that he and former wife Jezamine Lim had divorced, has addressed rumours that model and beauty queen Nadira Isaac was linked to the couple's separation.
Harith and Lim, who got married in 2010 and have three children, ended their marriage on Jul 25.
In an interview with The Star's Malay-language news portal mStar, 57-year-old Harith said such rumours were gossip fuelled by the desire for attention.
"Things like these might be a hot topic for a while, they but will eventually die down," he said. "Honestly, I don't read what netizens say. I think some people are just trying to exploit the situation for attention."
Ex-wife Jezamine, 41, concurred, saying that the couple does not have a close relationship with the model in the first place.
"We are merely acquaintances, not friends," she said. "Whenever we see each other at events, we just say, 'Hi, bye'. It's not like we spend time or hang out with one another." Gossip such as this is "a waste of time", she added.
From the whole situation, "I know who are my real friends and who only wants media attention", she said.
Asked if Nadira had reached out to her after the rumours broke, Jezamine said: "I don't want to communicate with anyone (after the divorce) because Harith and I don't want to be involved with any negative individuals. If we know someone is like that (negative), it's better to stay away from them."
According to The Star, Nadira responded to the "baseless" allegations, saying she had nothing to do with the couple's marital issues.
In an earlier interview with Malaysia's The Rakyat Post, Harith shared that the reason for the marriage coming to an end was that "I screwed up".
"I’m a guy. I’m an idiot. I acted in ways I should not have… I’m not going to say 'Oh, I did this, didn’t do that'. I’m not going to come up with any excuses. I have done stupid things that many men do and you would think I would know better at my age.”
Jezamine, who has custody of the children, will continue to manage Harith's work affairs, while Harith will continue to "live close by".
