Malaysian entertainer Hero Tai has apologised for his comments on Singapore which were made on an episode of Taiwanese variety show Student. Speaking to local news publication The New Paper, Tai claimed that the team behind Student wanted both the Singaporean and Malaysian guests on the show to verbally spar.

The 37-year-old actor-host, who is based in Taiwan, said: "The entire episode was about two groups of people 'attacking' each other purely for entertainment purposes."

"It looked like I was very dissatisfied with Singapore, but it was really just a performance to suit the entertainment programme," he clarified.

In the episode, Tai stuck a sign on Singaporean singer Huang Jinglun with the words “no culture”, “no attractions” and “super boring” before claiming that "Singapore stole Hainanese chicken rice, bak kut and char kway teow and Nyonya kueh from Malaysia".

He then went on to state that tourists need not "stay longer than three days in Singapore" as the country's attractions, including Gardens By The Bay and Jewel’s Rain Vortex were “man-made”.

Tai received a wave of criticism for his comments with some claiming he had "an inferiority complex" with others calling him an "attention seeker".
