Singaporean actor Hisyam Hamid ends marriage after 18 years: 'For now, we're more comfortable as good friends'
Hisyam and his ex-wife Rosmawati Hanafi got married in 2006.
After weeks of speculation, Singaporean actor Hisyam Hamid has confirmed that he is no longer married to Rosmawati Hanafi – his wife of 18 years. Speaking to Malaysian media outlets at a press conference for his latest drama Cinta Untuk Sekali Lagi (Love Once Again) on Thursday (May 23), Hisyam elaborated on his current relationship with Rosmawati whom he married in 2006.
"For now, we're more comfortable as good friends...We're no longer fighting, we've let go of whatever happened in the past and we're proceeding with our lives," said Hisyam to reporters.
He also praised Rosmawati, saying that their marriage had "way more good moments than bad ones".
"She's the mother to my children. That's the biggest sacrifice. I respect and appreciate her for that...I don't want a 'black spot' that happened to us destroying all these things. We've both apologised and moved on."
However, he refused to divulge the reasons for their divorce – adding that they're now focusing on their children: Nurish Syameliah, 17, and Haydeen,15.
"My child just furthered her studies and received a scholarship. So we're focusing on more positive and important things like that."
The 38-year-old actor was formerly a fireman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Early in his career, he made small appearances in local shows such as Anak Metropolitan (Metropolitan Child) and Tetangga (Neighbour).
After moving to Malaysia, his popularity exploded and he began starring in a string of hit TV shows including Abang Bomba I Love You (I Love You, Mr Fireman) and Alamatnya Cinta (The Sign Of Love). Now, he is regarded as one of the most popular actors in the Malaysian entertainment field.
