Actor Idris Elba tests positive for COVID-19: ‘Now is the time for solidarity’
The actor is one of a growing number of coronavirus cases in Hollywood, which also includes Game Of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.
Actor Idris Elba announced on Twitter on Tuesday (Mar 17) that he has been confirmed to be carrying the coronavirus. According to the actor, he has not been exhibiting any symptoms and has kept himself isolated.
“This morning I tested positive for Covid 19,” he wrote. “I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing.”
“No panic,” he added.
Elba’s tweet also contained a video of him and his wife, Sabrina Dhowre, where he explained how he had gotten himself tested after finding out he had come into contact with a person who also tested positive for COVID-19.
“It came back positive, yeah, and it sucks. I’m doing okay. Sabrina hasn’t been tested and she’s doing okay. I didn’t have any symptoms. I got tested because I realized I was exposed to someone who also tested positive.”
“I found out last Friday that they tested positive, I quarantined myself and got a test immediately and got the results back today.”
The star of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie also encouraged others to be vigilant and to look out for each other.
“Look, we live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it, it’s been bullshit. But now’s the time for solidarity. Now’s the time for thinking about each other. There are so many people whose lives have been affected, from people who’ve lost people that they love to people who don’t even have it and have lost their livelihoods. This is real.”
Other actors who have recently tested positive for the coronavirus include Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.
Kurylenko shared on Instagram on Monday (Mar 16) that she has not been faring as well after testing positive for COVID-19, and has been suffering from symptoms of fever and fatigue for a week.
Meanwhile, Hivju, who played Tormund in Game Of Thrones, revealed the diagnosis in an Instagram post on Tuesday (Mar 17) and said that he would be isolating himself and his family.
