Two iKon members in accident involving drunk driver, agency apologises
K-pop singers Koo Jun-hoe and Kim Jin-hwan were in a van, driven by a drunk driver, that skidded in the rain and crashed into a highway wall.
YG Entertainment has apologised on Tuesday (Jul 14) after two of the members of K-pop group iKon were involved in an accident early Monday morning.
Koo Jun-hoe and Kim Jin-hwan were in a van that skidded in the rain and crashed into a highway wall at 3.40am. They, along with the driver, suffered minor injuries and were sent to a nearby hospital.
The driver, who is the band’s manager, had a blood alcohol level of 0.08 per cent, which is over the legal limit. He was subsequently booked for driving under the influence and could lose his license.
According to The Korea Times, police are also examining if the two iKon members should be charged for failure to prevent drunk driving. If they do end up getting booked, they could face up to 18 months in jail or a fine of 5 million won (S$5,800).
YG Entertainment said in an official statement: "We sincerely apologise for the accident. We will conduct an in-depth internal investigation about it and take stringent measures (against those involved)."
The agency expressed concerned that such an accident occurred despite strict company regulations against drink driving. It also added that Koo and Kim were both resting.
