'My heart is shattered': Actor Jamie Foxx mourns death of younger sister
The Oscar winner’s sister, DeOndra Dixon, was a global ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
Jamie Foxx has paid an emotional tribute to his younger sister, DeOndra Dixon, who has died.
In his Instagram post on Monday (Oct 26), the Oscar-winning actor wrote that his sister, who was 36 years old and who was born with Down Syndrome, “was a bright light” and that his heart “is shattered into a million pieces”.
He also said that Dixon had “transitioned”, explaining that he used the word because “she will always be alive”.
Foxx went on to say that she used to steal the show during parties by getting on the dance floor.
“(Though) my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me… my family … and her friends,” Foxx added.
Dixon was a global ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation and was also the first recipient of the foundation’s Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award. According to a tribute posted on the foundation's web page, Dixon died on Oct 19.
She said in her official bio on the foundation’s page that she felt she was born to dance. She even appeared in Foxx’s music video for the song Blame It in 2009, which also featured rapper T-Pain.
