Jay Chou’s new single, Won't Cry, crashes Chinese music streaming site
Tencent’s QQ Music went down less than an hour after the release of the Mandopop singer's latest song.
Mandopop superstar Jay Chou’s long-awaited new single, Won’t Cry, caused Chinese streaming site QQ Music to crash shortly after the song’s release on Monday night (Sep 16).
According to tech site, TechNode, fans were greeted with the message “an error has occurred, please tap the screen to retry” less than an hour after the song came out.
The single sold more than 2.4 million copies on the Tencent-owned site within an hour of its release and by Tuesday morning, more than 5 million copies had been sold. It was priced at RMB3 (S$0.58).

The new single and the crash became trending topics on Weibo.
This is Chou’s first new material in over a year. His last full-length album, Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories, was released in 2016.
Won’t Cry was equally popular on YouTube, garnering almost 2 million views in just eight hours.
The song, written by Chou, is a collaboration with Mayday’s Ashin, the first time the pair has worked together.

The popular singer will be performing for two nights at the National Stadium in 2020 on Jan 10 and 11 to celebrate his 20 years in music. His last concert in Singapore was in 2018, as part of The Invincible 2 tour.
