K-pop boy band BTS honoured in Japan and makes record views on YouTube
The popular boy band earns Million certification in Japan and Boy With Luv MTV scores over the 500 million views on YouTube in just four months.
BTS is making waves again.
Their Boy With Luv MTV surpassed the 500 million view mark on Sunday morning (Aug 11) on YouTube, making them the fastest K-pop band to hit the milestone.
The video was released four months ago. Their other hit MTVs including DNA, Fire, Fake Love, Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix), Idol and Dope have also clocked more than 500 million views.
Meanwhile, over in Japan, the popular boy band’s new Japanese single Lights/Boy With Luv was given top honours by the country’s record industry.
The three-track single that dropped last month topped Japan’s Oricon single chart for seven consecutive days following its release. According to Big Hit Entertainment, BTS is the first foreign male group to have crossed the million-dollar mark in sales with a single album in Japan.
The album bagged Million certification – the top recognition category maintained by the Recording Industry Association of Japan and goes down in music history as a historic first for a K-pop single album in Japan.
Earlier, BTS was awarded three Double Platinum recognitions for previous Japanese records including MIC Drop/DNA/Crystal Snow, Face Yourself and Fake Love/Airplane pt.2.
