Singapore TV series Last Madame wins award at Busan International Film Festival event
It won best Asian drama at the Asia Contents Awards, which runs under the festival's Asian Contents and Film Markets event.
Singapore TV series Last Madame, starring Joanne Peh, was awarded best Asian drama on Sunday (Oct 25) at this year's Asia Contents Awards that runs under the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents and Film Markets event.
The show’s leading actress, Peh, posted a message on Instagram on Sunday night to congratulate the team behind the show.
She wrote: “Good news! We won we won — Last Madame is Best Asian Drama at Asia Contents Awards!! It’s been a year and I’m most grateful for having met and worked with the wonderful cast and dedicated crew of Last Madame. Congratulations @ochrepictures, thank you for bringing all of us together.”
Peh played the role of the owner and mamasan of a high-end brothel set in 1930s Singapore in the Toggle series. She also had a steamy love scene opposite Taiwanese actor Jeff Chou, who played a police inspector.
Last Madame’s best Asian drama win is shared with Korea’s When The Camellia Blooms, which stars Gong Hyo-jin and Kang Ha-neul.
This is the second year that the Asia Contents Awards has run. The awards recognises outstanding TV and OTT (over-the-top, which refers to streaming and Internet content) drama series throughout Asia.
This year’s winners were announced online.
Among the stars who picked up awards this year are Kim Hye-soo who won an Excellence award for playing a lawyer in Hyena, and The World Of The Married’s Kim Hae-ae who shared the best actress award with Haru Kuroki for her role in Nagi’s Long Vacation.
The best actor award went to Ju Ji-hoon who starred in Kingdom season 2 and Joseph Chang who starred in Taiwan’s The Victim Game.
The 2020 Busan International Film festival is running from Oct 21 to 30 after having been postponed by two weeks due to concerns over COVID-19.
