Malaysian singer under fire for challenge involving durians and extra spicy instant noodles
Ara Johari fell ill after eating the mixture, drawing criticism from the online community who accused her of endangering her life for the sake of going viral.
Malaysian singer Ara Johari incurred the wrath of the online community when she posted a teaser video of herself and a group of friends eating a mixture of extra spicy instant noodles and durians on Instagram.
After taking a few bites of the concoction, Ara asked for a plastic bag and proceeded to throw up into it. The 22-year-old got so ill, she had to leave the table, while her concerned friends handed her bottled water. An ambulance also appeared to have been called.
Commenters have accused the Bunga (Flower) singer of endangering her life for the sake of going viral and getting likes. One social media user called fyrajohan said: “You guys are public figures. Please try to set a better example for others.”
Malaysian actress Nabila Huda was also very critical of the stunt, calling it “stupid.” She commented: “Who are the morons who started the challenge of eating spicy noodles with durian? Stop doing stupid things like this. Durian is already a heaty food, suppose you died while eating this, then what?”
Ara herself has responded to Nabila’s comment, assuring the actress that she’s fine while discouraging others from doing the challenge. “I hope no one tries to follow this challenge, because it really isn’t for everyone,” Ara wrote. She has over 600,000 followers on Instagram.
She clarified to Malaysian paper Harian Metro that the video was recorded two weeks ago and that the stunt was for her friend’s Cikidot Channel on Youtube. She also said that she had eaten the mixture on an empty stomach, which led to her feeling ill. She added that she had seen a doctor for a checkup and was fine.Â
