It all started when Malaysian TV personality Neelofa’s siblings posted a number of cryptic Instagram Stories posts on Saturday (Dec 26). The posts included one that said “If someone shows you their true colours, don’t try to repaint them” and another cautioning that a good partner speaks kindly even when angry.

The 31-year-old TV host and entrepreneur’s family also unfollowed the religious preacher PU Riz.

This led netizens to wonder if Neelofa has hit a snag in her relationship with PU Riz, whose real name is Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail. The 25-year-old was a contestant on an Islamic reality television series in 2016.

Among the rumours that circulated because of the posts is a bizarre one that claims she is under a love spell or “minyak pengasih”. Another stated that Neelofa had secretly married PU Riz in Kelantan with her own father officiating the union. There’s also speculation that Neelofa had transferred RM100,000 (S$32,800) to him.

Neelofa took to Instagram on Dec 27 to set things straight via a five-minute video message posted on Instagram for her 8.3 million followers.

She shot down all the rumours that have been circulating, calling them “baseless and uncalled for”.

“The allegations of me getting caught under the spell of ‘minyak pengasih’ and undergoing treatment and that I’ve transferred some money (to PU Riz) is untrue, as is what has been said about marrying in Kelantan which is baseless and nonsense,” she said.

She added that she needed to explain the situation because it involves her family’s name.

“So, I’m asking all of you to stop these speculations because it will only worsen the matter.”

As for speculations that her relationship was in trouble, she said “every relationship has its own stories, and it’s not nice for me to talk about my family members”.

She also apologised to her family and the family of PU Riz, adding that they’re trying to find a solution.

It was earlier reported in Malaysian media that the couple was meant to tie the knot at the end of March 2021 after PU Riz met Neelofa’s family on Nov 1.
