Taufik Batisah, Rui En among performers at Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp's National Day Concert 2022

The concert is returning to the Gardens' grounds after two years on Aug 6 at the Supertree Grove and will see a host of local artistes showcasing their talents.

Mediacorp will be returning to Gardens by the Bay after two years to celebrate National Day with a star-studded line-up of artistes on Aug 6.

The Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert, which will be hosted by CLASS 95 DJ Jean Danker and 987 DJ Joakim Gomez, is returning to the Supertree Grove for its fourth edition and promises a whole host of fun and songs.

In addition to live music from a range of local musicians, audiences can look forward to comedy segments with actors stepping back into some of their well-loved characters.

Fans of the 2005 National Day song Reach Out For The Skies can look forward to a live rendition of the song by Taufik Batisah and Rui En. Batisah will also be performing the 2022 National Day song Stronger Together and his catchy single Awak Kat Mane.

Local rapper Yung Raja and singer Shabir will also be there to spice things up – the former will perform some of his hit songs such as Spice Boy, while the latter will be debuting a brand-new song, Rubaiyat Kavithai, at the concert.

Speaking of debuts, veteran musician Dick Lee will be performing the new song Love Is Real, along with We Will Get There, with his band Omnitones.

Other artistes involved are Annette Lee and Benjamin Kheng, who’ll be bringing their characters Chantelle, Asian Mum and Hawker Uncle to the stage to perform The Cai Fan Song and their version of Tanya Chua’s Where I Belong.

Additionally, Chua Enlai and Alaric Tay will be bringing back their characters Pornsak Sukhumvit and Nicholas Le Fong from the satirical programme The Noose, so you can trust that things will be more than “sabai, sabai”.

If that's not enough, Sebastian Tan will step back into the shoes of Singapore's favourite (and possibly only, so far) Hokkien-spewing, Broadway-belting Broadway Beng, while Adrian Ang (also known as Xiao Ming) from local entertainment site SGAG will bring his unique brand of humour to an offline audience.

Free tickets to the live performance, which were made available on Jul 25, were snapped up almost immediately. But not to worry, members of the public can watch the livestream of the concert at Supertree Grove.

And to sweeten the deal, they’ll get a chance to meet-and-greet with the cast of local shows including Sunny Side Up and Anak Metropolitan 4.0. Imagine listening to musical numbers shoulder-to-shoulder with some of your favourite actors – sounds pretty fun, if you ask us!

“We are thrilled to be partnering Gardens by the Bay for the fourth time in a joint concert to commemorate Singapore’s 57th birthday," said Mediacorp CEO Tham Loke Kheng in a press release.

“This is our gift to our nation and a celebratory affirmation of the resilience and achievements of our communities. We hope concertgoers and audiences viewing the special on Mediacorp platforms will enjoy the dazzling display of talent from our homegrown artistes.”

In addition to Singapore’s 57th birthday, the concert will be in line with the Gardens’ 10th anniversary. “Over the last two challenging years, we have worked hard to continue with many of our key public events," said Gardens by the Bay CEO Felix Loh.

“Nothing gives us more pleasure than to be able to thank our fellow Singaporeans for their wonderful support by hosting this year's concert on-site after two online editions.”

The concert will also air on meWATCH, Mediacorp Channel 5 and Mediacorp Entertainment’s YouTube channel on Aug 13 from 8pm to 9pm. For more details visit https://www.mediacorp.sg/nationalday/ndc.
