Meghan Markle is doing things her way. Kensington Palace announced on Thursday (Apr 11) that the pregnant Duchess of Sussex will not be announcing the birth of her child, reported Entertainment Tonight.

In addition to skipping the birth announcement, Markle and Prince Harry will only allow photos to be taken on the grounds of Windsor Castle when they are ready.

The couple have chosen not to follow royal protocol, which Prince William and Kate Middleton have practiced, regarding the birth of their first child, whose gender has not been revealed.

Prince William and Kate Middleton adhered to royal protocol when she gave birth to their three children. As a future king, William is expected to help mark great occasions, while Harry – sixth in the line of succession – has more leeway, reported ABC News.

"Meghan Markle does not want the pressure of having to pose on the steps for cameras so soon after childbirth," a source told Entertainment Tonight, adding that, while the couple is "extremely excited" for the birth of their first child, they intend to “enjoy the magic of childhood without any undue expectations."

Fans will likely "see photos within a few days of the birth but it’s down to how the duchess is feeling,” the source added.

When the child arrives, Queen Elizabeth II will be the first to be notified before other members of the royal family. Then, when they are ready, Buckingham Palace will share a statement with the public.

The couple’s first child is expected to arrive in late April or early May. The palace press office has announced very few details about their plans, refusing to comment on unconfirmed British media reports that Meghan may opt for a home birth, reported ABC.

Last week, the couple launched an Instagram page, @sussexroyal, fuelling rumours that photos of the firstborn of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be revealed on social media.
