K-pop girl group NewJeans released its new single album How Sweet on Friday (May 24), which sold over 800,000 copies on its first day of release.

As part of the album's promotions, the members of NewJeans – except for Hyein who is healing from a foot injury – will be performing at seven university festivals from May 25 to 31.

The dates and locations of these festivals are as follows:

  1. Korea University (May 25)
  2. Chosun University (May 27)
  3. Dong-eui University (May 28)
  4. Pusan University (May 28)
  5. Dongguk University (May 30)
  6. Sejong University (May 30)
  7. Chung-ang University (May 31)

On May 25, NewJeans' agency ADOR announced – via its fan messaging app Phoning – that all the income from these seven festivals will be donated to charity. Although the exact figure has yet to be revealed, in an article on May 26, South Korea's national broadcaster KBS estimated that NewJeans' donation amount will "reach hundreds of millions of won" – 100 million won is approximately US$73,270.

In 2023, NewJeans donated part of the profits from its album sales to The Snail Of Love – a charity organisation that supports those with hearing impairments.

The release of How Sweet comes in the midst of ADOR's public conflict with parent company HYBE which has seen ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin trading barbs with the higher-ups of HYBE. HYBE is set to present a motion to dismiss Min at a shareholders’ meeting for ADOR on May 31. However, Min has filed a lawsuit to ban HYBE from exercising its voting rights at the meeting.
