Actor who voiced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Lord Zedd dies at 70
Robert Axelrod had voiced over 150 characters throughout his career, including Wizardmon in the Digimon TV series.
Robert Axelrod, the actor who voiced the characters of Lord Zedd and Finster in the ’90s TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has died on Saturday (Sep 7) at the age of 70. His agent confirmed the news on social media.
In a statement released on Twitter, Axelrod’s agent said, “Robert enjoyed meeting his fans and inspiring them to follow their passions. His beautiful and kindred soul will never be forgotten and we take comfort in knowing his memory will live on in all those he inspired, met and knew."
Axelrod is best known for voicing Finster in Season 1 and the villain Lord Zedd in Seasons 2 and 3 of the TV show, which ran from 1993 to 1996. He also voiced Lord Zedd in the 1995 film adaptation.
Apart from the popular superhero series, Axelrod had also voiced over 150 characters including Armadillomon and Wizardmon in the Digimon TV series and Movor in the Transformers TV series in 2000. He also provided voices for the Spider-Man series, Cowboy Bebop and Beetleborgs.
According to his agent, Axelrod was a guitarist in the early ’70s before transitioning to voice work in the early 1980s.
