Nominees for the Producers Guild Awards have been announced, and among the contenders for the top feature film of 2018 are Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians.

Also in the running for the prize, also known as The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, are Bohemian Rhapsody, A Quiet Place, A Star Is Born, Roma, The Favourite, Green Book, Vice and BlacKkKlansman.

There is good reason to take note, as the PGA, with its over 8,000 members, has mirrored the Oscar for best picture in 20 of its 29 years, including The Shape Of Water last year.

And when Oscar nominations are announced on Jan 22, there is a high probability that the same films that were up for the PGA award will make the list. About 75 per cent of the PGA’s top film nominees are also named Oscar best picture nominees. Last year, seven of the 11 PGA nominees earned Oscar nods.

This year’s PGA winners will be unveiled at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan 19.

In the category of animated films, the nominees include The Grinch, Ralph Breaks The Internet, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Incredibles 2 and Isle Of Dogs.

Nominees for best drama include The Handmaid’s Tale, Better Call Saul and This Is Us.
