Rapper who mourned deaths of friends now accused of having murdered them
Florida-based YNW Melly is believed to have staged the killing to resemble a drive-by shooting.
Jamell Demons, a rapper known as YNW Melly, stands accused of two counts of first-degree murder, according to Florida’s Miramar Police.
The victims, Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr, were said to have been shot multiple times and killed on Oct 26 last year. Both were rappers who performed as YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy respectively.
Police said Demons, 19, shot the two and, with the help of Cortlen Henry, 20, made the shootings look like a drive-by. Henry allegedly drove the pair to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead; then gave a statement that did not match up with the subsequent investigation.
"Further investigation, supported by forensic evidence, concluded that Demons shot and killed Williams and Thomas Jr, and that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to resemble a drive-by shooting," police announced via Twitter. Henry was also arrested and charged.
A day after the killings, Demons appeared to mourn his friends publicly, writing in an Instagram post, “They took my brothers from me over jealousy… Till we meet again my twins my slimes”.
On Feb 14, one day after police announced his arrest, he wrote a post saying, “A couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice.. unfortunately a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother (sic)”.
Last year, Demons released the songs Murder On My Mind and Melly The Menace.
