Guess how much Robert Downey Jr made from Avengers: Endgame?
The movie has grossed S$3.6 billion worldwide and the actor is set to receive a percentage of the profits.
Avengers: Endgame’s success at the box office meant star Robert Downey Jr got a huge payday. The actor who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the franchise walked away US$75 million (S$101 million) richer.
According to a new report from Forbes, Downey received a US$20 million salary up front, as well as 8 per cent on the movie’s back-end points. This means he gets a percentage of the profits, which came to an additional US$55 million.
Endgame has grossed US$2.7 billion (S$3.6 billion) worldwide and is just US$14.6 million shy of hitting the record for the highest grossing movie of all time, which currently belongs to 2009’s Avatar. It made US$1.2 billion worldwide during its opening weekend alone.
The movie marked Downey’s ninth appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; he appeared in the first Iron Man movie in 2008.
He also made US$5 million for three days of work on 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
Some of Downey’s co-stars are also making serious money from the franchise. THR reported that Scarlett Johansson will make US$20 million for her 2020 Black Widow standalone film, while Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans have also renegotiated their contracts to make between US$15 million and US$20 million each for Infinity War and Endgame.
