Actress Rui En reveals deep vein thrombosis scare, her arm was swollen and bruised
The actress rushed to the hospital and had several tests done, including a CT scan and an angiogram.
Local actress Rui En had a health scare recently when her right arm “started swelling and mottling with bruising” last Friday (Dec 8) night.
She posted about the scary incident on Instagram on Sunday, adding that after rushing to the A&E and having several tests done, including an ultrasound, angiogram, CT scan and blood tests, medical staff found that she had developed deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, in the vein behind the clavicle (the bone that connects the arms to the body).
This caused the blood flow to the arm to be cut off, she explained.
In her post, Rui En apologised to the people who were headed to Suntec City for an event she was supposed to attend, saying, “You have no idea how much my heart breaks and how disappointed I am that I won’t be able to be there”.
She shared that her doctors had advised her against it.
Rui En added that DVT doesn’t typically have warning signs, “which means I should or would be dead” and credited “divine intervention” for her being okay.
The actress ended her post by saying she was feeling fine and was “surrounded by love”.
Her followers, including several celebrities, expressed their concern for her situation. Chantalle Ng wrote, “What is going on” while Chew Chor Meng said he was praying for her.
Taufik Batisah, Edwin Goh, Desmond Tan and Tasha Low also relayed their wishes for her to get well soon.
