Seungri scandal: Another woman testifies to rape by tokbang chatroom member
The woman, who is Seungri's friend, was invited to an overseas party in 2016.
The Seungri sex scandal that has rocked the K-pop world deepens with another woman who has come forward to the authorities alleging that she was raped, reported SBS’s 8 News on Apr 19.
According to the news broadcast, the woman identified only by her surname Lee, was invited to a get-together overseas in 2016 with the former Big Bang member, singer-songwriter and radio presenter Roy Kim, ex-Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In-suk and other members of the tokbang (a Korean slang referring to women’s genitals) chatroom.
Lee didn’t know any of the men at the party but had accepted the invitation as her female friends were also invited and they were promised separate sleeping quarters from the men.
The news broadcast shared a chatroom conversation in which Seungri said, “Eight have been recruited”, to which someone with the surname Park replied, “Wow, great”.
Lee alleged that she blacked out while having dinner and drinks with the men in their living room. When she woke up the next day, she was naked in bed in a room adjacent to the living room. It was a different room from the one her friends had placed her after she lost consciousness the night before.
“My friends found me in another room connected to the bathroom but on the other side from where they originally left me. They were yelling at me to wake up and open my eyes. Apparently, they had been trying to wake me up for over 30 minutes by pinching me on my cheeks, thighs, arms, and stomach,” Lee said.
“I'm known for being able to hold my liquor among my friends, so I knew it had to be a different reason.”
It was only three years later, when Jung Joon-young’s chat logs were released, that Lee found out what had happened to her. In the logs, Kim had posted a video of her. The text exchanges captured Choi Jong-hoon commenting that the video was short. Kim then posted another video to which Choi replied: “What the, she’s passed out”. Kim responded, “So what if she is?”. Jung got into the conversation at this point by texting, “It was rape”, and added laughing symbols in Korean.
During questioning by the police, Kim claimed that the sex was consensual. Seungri’s representative, on the other hand, said that the singer didn’t know about the incident.
According to SBS, the police has confirmed that Lee is the woman in the video and has charged Kim with quasi-rape, that is, engaging in sexual intercourse with someone unconscious or unable to resist. Investigations are also ongoing into the suspected use of a date rape drug.
When asked why Lee had waited so long to come forward with her statement, she said, “If a person like this gets away free, he’ll just think that’s it’s so easy to get away, and there could be another target.
"I never thought something like this would happen to me. But anyone can be a victim. It could be my younger sister. I don’t want any more victims, I want them to be punished, so I thought I should come out."
