Shannen Doherty’s death: Former co-stars and celeb friends pay tribute to Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210 star

Shannen Doherty, the star of hit TV shows Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210 died on Saturday (Jul 13) after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 53.

Her death was confirmed by her publicist, Leslie Sloane, who released a statement. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress, Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and was in remission two years later. The cancer returned in 2019 and in 2023, she announced that it had spread to her brain. The actress documented her fight with the disease in a podcast titled Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.

Following news of her death, celebrity friends and co-stars paid tribute to the star, including Jason Priestley, who played her twin brother in Beverly Hills, 90210. He wrote: “She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

Alyssa Milano, her Charmed co-star with whom she famously had a lot of friction, made a statement to US media outlets addressing Doherty’s death.

Milano wrote: “It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of. She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
