Singapore national sprinter and record holder Shanti Pereira is now engaged to her boyfriend of three years, former sprinter and lawyer Tan Zong Yang. The 30-year-old Tan popped the question last Sunday (Jun 9) at a lawn near Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm, Sweden.
A video of the proposal was posted on the Instagram page of Singaporean sprinter Timothee Yap who was also present at the time. In the video (set to a cover of the song Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You), Tan is seen getting down on one knee as he proposes to Pereira who then leaps excitedly.
In a celebratory post on her Instagram page, Pereira wrote: "Cheers to your 30th, three years together, and to the rest of our lives!"
The news of Pereira's engagement has attracted a wave of well-wishes from various celebrities including fitness trainer Tyen Rasif, actor Glenn Yong and Mediacorp actress Chantalle Ng.
Pereira is currently preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris which will run from Jul 26 to Aug 11. She holds the national record for the 100m, 200m and 400m events.
