Watch the National Museum come to life with 'adventure' at the Night Lights showcase

Ready to experience a different kind of nightlife this weekend? The popular Singapore Night Festival kicks off its 12th edition on Friday (Aug 23) with the Night Lights showcase all over the Bras Basah.Bugis district.
For the festival’s first weekend, visitors will be treated to 17 light artworks of installations and projections. All works will be shown from 7.30pm to midnight all the way until Aug 31.
And as a nod to the Singapore Bicentennial celebrations, several works in the line-up have a Southeast Asian connection, casting a spotlight on folklore and traditions.
Internationally-renowned French group Spectaculaires is transforming the National Museum of Singapore with their work titled Keep Dreaming. The iconic landmark will come to life as the light display tells the tale of three mysterious characters who awaken from slumber to go on an adventure.
“The story begins with a school group which is visiting the museum, and it is a little story which is able to make people dream with us,” said Benoit Quero, founder of Spectaculaires.

Spectaculaires is known for its projections and highlights and it has developed artworks involving graphics, sound, light and scenography that have been seen across Europe.
Over at the National Design Centre, you’ll see a piece by design company Asylum, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an installation work titled Work-In-Progress, featuring a scaffold structure holding animated light formations.
“If you look closely, you will see things like Tetris blocks forming into dinosaurs, you will see snakes floating, you will see rain falling from the sky, so it’s really up to your imagination – what triggers off and what you can spot,” teased Chris Lee, founder of Asylum.

Meanwhile, Symbiote by LiteWerkz will be found at the walkway along Stamford Road. The piece by the design collective of students, artists and engineers is said to show the symbiotic relationship between different communities in Singapore.
Over at CHIJMES is another Singapore-inspired piece, Waves Of Time by Chips And Toon, which features a facade projection reimagining the journey of a prince who crossed the seas to visit the country.
Apart from the Night Lights showcase, this year’s Singapore Night Festival line-up will also include 40 performances and roving acts, as well as two Festival Village set-ups at Dhoby Ghaut Green and Armenian Street Park.
Headlining this year is Fuerza Bruta with an immersive theatre show that has been seen by more than 6 million people around the world.
