Supernatural will be ending after 15 seasons. The stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins broke the news on social media yesterday (Mar 22).

The announcement marks the end of the longest running sci-fi series in the history of American broadcast television. The show is on its 14th season and was renewed in January for Season 15.

“We have some big news that we wanted y’all to hear from us," said Padalecki in a video posted on his Twitter account.

"Though we are very, very excited to be moving into the 15th season, it’ll be our last," continued Ackles. "It will be the finale, a big grand finale of an institution."

"We cried some tears and we’ll cry some more," said Padalecki. "But we’ll save the tears for the next season!" quipped his on-screen sibling.

The two actors have played the ghoul-busting, demon-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester since Supernatural premiered in 2005.

Ackles confirmed the announcement on his Instagram. “Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in Supernatural...does it?”

The 15th season will consist of 20 episodes.
