The tragedy of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna is still felt deeply by Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife and mother to Gianna.

On Tuesday (Feb 11), Vanessa posted a video on Instagram of the pair, who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Jan 26. The post was a tribute to the closeness they shared as father and daughter and a testament to Gianna's skills as a basketball player.

The video shows several close moments between the former LA Lakers star and his daughter, as well as clips of Gianna playing basketball and Kobe coaching her team. It also shows several instances of the pair taking photos together and hugging.

Even though Vanessa wrote that she had been “reluctant to put feelings into words”, the post's caption contained her reflections about what she has gone through since the tragic accident.

She wrote: “My brain refuses to accept that both Kobe and Gigi are gone. I can’t process both at the same time. It’s like I’m trying to process Kobe being gone but my body refuses to accept my Gigi will never come back to me.”

“It feels wrong. Why should I be able to wake up another day when my baby girl isn’t being able to have that opportunity?! I’m so mad. She had so much life to live,” she continued.

But even though grieving has been painful, Vanessa also knew that she had her three other daughters to take care of.

“I realize I need to be strong and be here for my 3 daughters. Mad I’m not with Kobe and Gigi but thankful I’m here with Natalia, Bianka and Capri,” she said.

She then acknowledged that her feelings at the moment were normal and part of the grieving process, and that she wanted to share in case anyone else had experienced a similar loss.

She ended her post saying: “God I wish they were here and this nightmare would be over. Praying for all of the victims of this horrible tragedy. Please continue to pray for all.”

Kobe and Vanessa had been married since 2001, getting engaged just six months after they began dating. Vanessa was 18 years old when they got married.

According to Entertainment Tonight, a source close to the family said Vanessa “never expected to live her life without him”.

The source added: “She has been surrounded by her family and friends but she feels almost numb to everything. She is thankful for the outpouring of love her and her family has received and will respond when she’s ready. Right now she’s taking time to be with her girls.”
