Following rumours that she had been found in contempt of court for failing to produce evidence of her ex-husband’s infidelities, Lee Jinglei has spoken through her legal team to refute this.

Lee, who is locked in a custody battle in New York with Taiwanese-American singer Wang Leehom, posted a legal letter on Weibo late Thursday (Jul 7) after the rumours first appeared.

The rumours were said to have been started by a Chinese netizen who claimed that Lee still had not allowed Wang to visit their children despite being unable to produce evidence of Wang’s alleged affairs. The netizen also claimed that Lee was facing fines because of this.

In Lee’s retort, the legal letter stated that “The New York court has rejected all the requests made by Mr Wang Leehom while Ms Lee Jinglei's requests were granted” and further urged the media and netizens not to spread unverified rumours, or Lee and her legal team will take action.

Wang first confirmed in December last year that he and Lee had ended their eight-year marriage. “I’ve had too many shortcomings during my marriage these past few years, and I feel very regretful," he wrote in his Facebook post.

He added that the couple had “different ideas and plans for the future, so we have decided to live separate lives”.

Shortly after the announcement, Lee took to social media to share her side of the story. She disclosed numerous details of her life and relationship with the singer, including his habit of having "friends with benefits", soliciting prostitutes and being an absent father to their three young children.
