In the age of coronavirus, hotels have gotten creative with their offerings. Aside from the usual staycation packages, hotels in Singapore have rolled out a suite of daytime experiences for guests to enjoy the facilities without having to stay the night.

These run the gamut from spa experiences, pool access, F&B workshops, or work from hotel packages. The trouble is, you'd have to search each hotel's site, one by one, for such promotions.

DayAway.sg is on a mission to solve that problem. The platform, which soft-launched in Singapore in April, offers carefully curated and exclusive daytime experiences at local luxury hotels for guests to browse and book.

DayAway partners include some of the city's most esteemed hotels, namely the iconic Raffles Singapore, The Fullerton Hotel and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore, InterContinental Singapore and Fairmont Singapore. Thirty more hotels are to be announced shortly, the company said in a press release.

The platform was founded by marketing and branding executive Martha Waslen, who moved to Singapore in 2011. According to the press release, Waslen was instrumental in the success of beauty platform Luxola, which was acquired by Sephora. She started her career at Ralph Lauren New York, and has since contributed to the success of several start-ups.

The advent of the pandemic, and the resulting closed borders, pent-up travel demand and beleaguered hotel industry was what inspired Waslen to launch DayAway.

“Over the last year, my family often walked the grounds of our favourite hotels in Singapore as a diversion and I noticed that all these beautiful pools, gyms, restaurants and bars were empty," Walsen said.

"Hotels have been trying to increase revenue generated by this kind of ancillary inventory for nearly a decade but either lacked the technology to sell these spaces effectively or the marketing channels to engage with the local community. DayAway is the win-win solution to filling these gaps and supporting the hospitality industry while offering exciting new daytime experiences for its guests,” she continued.

Daytime packages offered on the platform include the Sling and Swim experience (S$100++) at Raffles Singapore, which includes a complimentary Singapore Sling, three hours of pool time, gym access and S$20 credit at the hotel’s exclusive Pool Bar.

Raffles Singapore is also offering a work from hotel package on the platform (S$80++), which includes three-hour access and S$60 credit for The Grand Lobby and 15 per cent discount at Raffles-operated F&B outlets.
