Candid celebrities are almost as rare a breed as Armored Mewtwo, one of the rarest Pokemon in the game. And rightly so, since what they share can sometimes be misconstrued.

So when CNA Lifestyle reached out to Singaporean-Swedish actress Ase Wang, we were charmed by how open and honest this Thailand-based mother-of-one was.

“Yes, it’s true, I ate my placenta,” the 42-year-old offered nonchalantly.

She then went on to add: “I encapsulated my placenta into small little capsules, which I took over a few weeks and that just kind of replenished and gave me back all the vitamins and minerals that I lost while giving birth… it was probably one of the best things that I invested in doing.”

Wang is by no means a noob when it comes to trying out maverick scientific innovations. Her simple wish of becoming a mother was fraught with challenges. Not one to be easily defeated, Wang took matters into her own hands. She elected to freeze her eggs after being told that it would be challenging for her to conceive and bravely faced up to a long-drawn IVF journey that thankfully led to the birth of her daughter Kaya.

Scientific advancements have been nothing short of a miracle-makers for Wang, which explains why this Mediacorp artiste is a huge believer of science-backed beauty claims to maintain her youthful visage.

We quizzed Wang on the staples in her beauty cabinet and what other medically advanced beauty routines she swears by. And yes, the girl has done her homework.

WHAT'S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ALL THINGS RELATED TO BEAUTY?

Three words describe it all.

Intrigued: The science behind beauty innovations, in particular, stem cells intrigue me. Like how the discovery of natural stem cells can rejuvenate and help with your mood and energy level, as well as, with any pains or problems that you may have. In the past, we used to look at creams and serums as just beauty products but these days, we look to its science and it’s fascinating.

Curious: I’m curious about how science has impacted beauty and how so many skincare breakthroughs can help your skin, inner beauty and health. Using your own stem cells or someone else’s to help alleviate your beauty issues is very, very fascinating to me.

Experimental: I experimented with saving some of my cord, blood and placenta when I gave birth to my daughter Kaya. I injected the stem cells back into my body and that helped a lot with stabilising my mood and replenished a lot of the minerals and vitamins that I may have lost during birth.

SPEAKING OF KAYA, WHAT BEAUTY ROUTINE WILL YOU HAND DOWN TO HER?

That would be to always, always remove your makeup before you go to bed. At least twice.

BACK TO YOU, WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY?

To own any insecurities I may have; just by accepting and embracing any kind of flaws that I think I have helps me feel beautiful.

WHAT'S YOUR DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE?

It's really simple: Lots and lots of water.

WHAT ARE THE BEAUTY STAPLES IN YOUR BEAUTY CUPBOARD?

First of all, I cannot live without moringa oil – it is really good for dry skin.

Second, the JLo Beauty moisturising hydrating cream. She based her skincare range on olive oil which is really good for your skin.

And last, I never leave the house without sunblock. Never ever, ever.

ARE THERE ANY BEAUTY ROUTINES OUTSIDE OF YOUR BEAUTY CABINET?

I've been into NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). One thing that NAD does is it replaces all the vitamins and minerals and other things that your body may lose as you get older and it slows down ageing. It's good for your skin, it's good for energy, and it just gives a real boost to the system. So I get an IV drip of NAD monthly.

WHAT'S THE MOST BENEFICIAL BEAUTY INVESTMENT YOU'VE EVER MADE?

I ate my placenta after giving birth. I encapsulated my placenta into small little capsules, which I took over a few weeks and that just kind of replenished and gave me back all the vitamins and minerals that I lost while giving birth. It gave me a lot of energy, probably one of the best things that I invested in doing.

And I also kept a lot of stem cells, which I have used about three times now after giving birth, and that also helped replenish and restore a lot of the nutrients that I might have lost at childbirth. I'm a strong believer of putting your stem cells to use and eating your placenta.

YOU’RE BASED IN BANGKOK, THE LAND OF WELLNESS TREATMENTS. WHAT THAI BEAUTY TIPS HAVE YOU PICKED UP?

Always try to relax, try to get a massage when you can and always make sure your hair and makeup are on point.

WHAT BEAUTY SECRETS WILL YOU BE PASSING ON TO YOUR DAUGHTER KAYA?

To be happy.  To drink lots of water. And to eat healthy. And always love ‘Mama’.
