Friends stars in talks for reunion special, no longer ‘on a break’
The special on streaming service HBO Max is not a done deal just yet but could we be any more excited at the news?

It’s The One Where The Cast Of Friends Got Together For A Reunion Special.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), all six stars and the show’s two creators are in talks to appear in an unscripted reunion special on upcoming streaming service HBO Max.
The deal is far from inked, the sources who spoke to THR cautioned, as there are many “agreements with casts and creatives (that) still need to be hammered out.”

On top of that, there’s also the matter of syncing the schedules of everyone involved: stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, as well as creators David Crane and Marta Kaufman, which could prove to be a mammoth task.
But there’s still plenty to get excited about as this is the closest we’ve come to a reunion special with all six stars – albeit an unscripted one – despite years of fans clamouring for one.

The show has enjoyed a lot of media attention in recent months as it’s celebrating its 25th anniversary. The series debuted in 1994 and ran for 10 seasons, ending in 2004. However, its popularity has lived on through streaming service Netflix.
In 2020, though, the show will have a new home on HBO Max, which paid US$425 million (S$579 million) for a five-year deal. So it stands to reason that the new streaming platform will want to drum up as much excitement as possible to set itself apart from its competitors.

Many are expressing their unbridled joy on social media, including one fan who tweeted: “I just cried tears of excitement as I just learned that #HBOMax is in talk to make a reunion with the original cast and creators or #Friends! I’m so pumped I don’t think you understand right now.”
There are also those who choose to remain cautiously optimistic and even unimpressed. The Guardian writer Stuart Heritage wrote: “An unscripted special is a horrible hinterland of an idea.”
However, it's about celebrating small wins as THR sources say that the fact the stars agreed to do it at all is “an accomplishment in and of itself.”
