The Black Lives Matter movement taking place in the US now has garnered the attention of many celebrities, including Korean stars who have expressed their support for the cause in different ways.

Some stars have made monetary donations, while others have used their public platforms to call for justice for George Floyd and for an end to systemic racial injustice.

Rapper Jay Park donated US$10,000 (S$14,000) to the Black Lives Matter movement and posted a lengthy message on Instagram, where he wrote that he was sick of seeing “the same sh** happening over and over again.”

He added in his post: “Me being inspired by black culture aside me having black homies aside just as a man and a human being.. to think how helpless he felt and how inhumane he was treated... to think what if that was my dad, or uncle or homie makes me sick to my stomach.”

Park’s agency H1GHR Music and the artistes under them also collectively donated US$21,000 to organisations supporting the movement.

Other Korean artistes such as GOT7’s Mark, DAY6’s Jae, pH-1 and Crush have also made donations towards supporting the cause. Mark donated US$7,000 while Jae and pH-1 donated US$1,000 and US$3,000, respectively. Crush posted a screenshot of his donation but blurred out the exact amount.

Meanwhile, celebrities such as Jessi, Red Velvet’s Yeri, KARD’s Jiwoo, VIXX’s Ravi, MOMOLAND, EXID’s LE, AleXa, former INFINITE member Hoya, Lee Hi, Dal Shabet’s Subin, Eric Nam, and Minzy have all spoken up on social media regarding the tragic incident and called for change.

Nam urged people through his tweet to "sign the petitions, raise your voice, and do what you can.”

Ravi posted a photo of Floyd on his Instagram Stories with the caption "Everyone is everything to someone" and ended with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter.

The members of MOMOLAND all posted the same image of a drawing of Floyd with the words, "I can't breathe. Justice for George Floyd. Solidarity with Minneapolis."
