New Zealand lifeguard Harrison Reid was recently caught off-guard when he was approached by a young boy from Singapore who "gave him the biggest hug" and "bawled his eyes out" after meeting him.

Reid is one of the cast members of Australian reality TV show Bondi Rescue which chronicles the day-to-day lives of the lifeguards patrolling Sydney's Bondi Beach.

In a TikTok video capturing the encounter, the boy is seen embracing Reid and crying after meeting the lifeguard, who then admitted he "didn't really know how to take it".

A voiceover in the video indicated that the boy came "all the way from Singapore" and that "meeting a lifeguard was at the top of his bucket list".

"You don't really get that very often. That was really special knowing that I've made an impact on someone's life like that," he added.

To "make the child's day", Reid then gave the boy his shirt which prompted the boy to cry even more and hug Reid tighter as another boy joined the embrace.

Reid then joked to a person off-screen: "Does this normally happen?"

In a separate confessional, Reid said that the incident "tugged a few strings" in his heart.

"Knowing that you (elicited) that reaction (is) pretty special."

The comments under the video have praised the encounter, calling it "beautiful" and "touching".

One commentator even empathised with the boy, saying "I’m 29 and would do the same thing if I met the cast. I have been watching this show since the beginning and being in health care, I have learnt so much!"

Bondi Rescue first aired in 2006 and was recently renewed for an 18th season.
