Fancy a 1.1km-long Chinese New Year dragon yusheng for S$1.19 million?

There are other options from caterer Neo Garden that don't require a 25-year bank loan.

Lucky yusheng is a must-have for Chinese New Year celebrations. While you can still find wallet-friendly options, those with deep pockets can consider this dragon-shaped yusheng that costs  – wait for it  – S$1,088,888 (US$805,000) from homegrown caterer Neo Garden.

DRAGON YUSHENG SPANS 1,088 METRES

To add to the huat-ness of it all, the dish, which is named the Celestial Dragon Yusheng, is 1,088 metres long. To put it in perspective, that is the length of approximately 10 football fields. You may even have to take a taxi to go from end to end and see the meter jump up.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S GST

The S$1.08 million price tag for the yusheng isn’t even the final amount you have to pay. Factoring in the GST charge of S$98,000, you are looking at shelling out around S$1.187 million total, which can probably get you a small heartland condo (or those million-dollar HDB flats in prime locations).

According to Neo Garden’s catalogue, advanced booking of at least seven days is required for the yusheng, which apparently comes with the requisite yusheng veggies and toppings like fresh salmon, smoked salmon, smoked duck and “dragon pearls”. We are guessing part of the astronomical price tag also goes towards supplies and the labour costs of creating this majestic creature.

IT TAKES HALF A DAY TO SET UP

When 8days.sg called Neo Garden out of curiosity to enquire about ordering the million-dollar dragon, a friendly auntie told us that a site recce is necessary to determine if the area is suitable to set up the yusheng. “We need half a day to set up,” she informed us.

We imagine it’s hard to propose a location where one can fit a 1,088m edible dragon or even find enough people to lohei (how about the Park Connector Network? Hmm.)

THERE ARE OTHER LENGTH OPTIONS TOO

If 1,088m is a little too much huat for you, Neo Garden also offers other length options ranging from an 8m-long Fortune Dragon Yusheng (from S$3,888) to a 988m-long Imperial Dragon Yusheng (from S$988,888). Prices are before 9 per cent GST, so do the maths okay?

Every purchase of a dragon yusheng longer than 108m gets you a free 15ft (around 4.6m) Dragon Pearl Yusheng, which according to Neo Garden is worth S$10,000.

Alternatively, you can splurge on a Golden Harvest Dragon Boat yusheng, with three lengths available: 6m (S$2,888), 8m (S$3,888) and 10m (S$4,888).

That said, if you are looking for yusheng that doesn’t require a 25-year bank loan, the caterer also offers small-sized versions starting from S$48.80 for a 12-inch Prosperity Yusheng with Salmon platter that feeds four to six people.
