Days after being cleared of allegations of illegal drug use, South Korean rapper G-Dragon has revealed that he will be establishing an anti-drug foundation. The announcement was delivered by executives of Galaxy Corporation, G-Dragon's new agency, during a press conference at JW Marriott Hotel on Thursday (Dec 21).

G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-young, was absent during the press conference. Instead, Galaxy Corporation director Jo Sung-hae read a letter prepared by G-Dragon which outlined his plans for the future.

The letter, which has since been uploaded onto G-Dragon's Instagram page, reads: "As you know, I have been going through a difficult time recently, but I was able to overcome it thanks to the concern and support of those around me. I am grateful to everyone.

“After this incident, I saw things that I had not seen before. Watching the news, I realised that the average number of drug offenders per year is about 20,000 and that the number of juvenile drug offenders is increasing at an alarming rate. It was heartbreaking to learn that there were less than 500 people who could get treatment.

"So I thought I had to take action. I will try to help people who cannot receive treatment. I want to play a systematic role in protecting powerless people by becoming someone’s older brother, younger brother, younger sibling, or colleague so that they do not experience unfair events.

"I decided to create a foundation to sincerely and continuously carry out such activities. I stand on the side of those who suffer and are harmed by prejudice and injustice in the world and want to create a society where everyone is treated with fair respect and lives together.

"Through music and art activities, we plan to solve social problems such as drug eradication and unfairness, provide sponsorship to give opportunities to artists who do not have opportunities and engage in activities to nurture the future generation. I want to create a world without prejudice by conducting peace campaigns with fans around the world. This is how we want to start 2024."

He ended the letter by thanking his former agency YG Entertainment and his fans, announcing that the first donation to the foundation will be made in the name of VIPs (fans of BIGBANG).

Galaxy Corporation also revealed that G-Dragon is scheduled to make a comeback as a singer in 2024. In the meantime, the agency has issued a deadline of Dec 28 "for anyone to delete or change online posts containing false accusations (regarding G-Dragon)".

“Afterward, we will adopt a no-tolerance policy and take strong legal measures."
