Amazon Singapore increases Prime membership price, introduces new annual subscription plan
The new price of S$4.99 takes effect on Wednesday (Aug 28) for new members and on Sep 28 for existing members.
Amazon Singapore has raised the price of its popular membership plan Prime from S$2.99 (US$2.30) a month to S$4.99 a month, with effect from Wednesday (Aug 28) for new members.
For existing Prime members, this change will take effect from Sep 28.
This marks the platform's first price hike since its launch in 2017.
Through a Prime membership, users are able to take part in exclusive sales such as Prime Day and Black Friday, enjoy free international delivery and one-day domestic delivery on selected items, get free games every month and access the Prime Video streaming platform – home to original shows such as The Boys, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, Deadloch and Reacher.
Amazon Singapore will also introduce an annual subscription plan priced at S$49.90. This plan provides a 16 per cent discount compared with the monthly subscription.
Peter Li, director of Amazon China and Singapore, said in a statement that the price would enable Amazon to "remain committed to investing in and growing the value of Prime in Singapore".
