The body of Malaysian singer Nidza Afham, 23, was found on Wednesday night (Aug 14) in a river near Sungai Klang Bridge – hours after he was reported missing.

Nidza had reportedly been jogging alone at Sultan Suleiman Stadium at around 8pm on Tuesday and was uncontactable, prompting his family to search the area hours later. There, they found his phone and wallet near a bridge. His family then filed a missing persons report at around 4am.

Speaking to the Malaysian media, Nidza's sister Afrina Hanie claimed that he was likely robbed as only his debit card and cash were missing from his wallet; his identity card, student card and photos were untouched.

Nidza's body was later discovered at around 7pm on Wednesday by a fisherman.

In an interview with the press, Nidza's father Mokhtar Mahmud said: "I have accepted my son's death...Am [Nidza's nickname] always listened to (his parents) and helped his siblings out a lot...The last time I contacted him was via WhatsApp yesterday night. He said he wanted to give me some pocket money."

Mokhtar added that he would let the police handle everything.

According to the authorities, Nidza's death is still being investigated and they are waiting for the results of his autopsy.

Nidza Afham was famous for his covers on YouTube, with his rendition of d'Masiv's Rindu Setengah Mati (Missing You To Death) garnering over 6 million views. In 2021, he released his single Ternyata Bukan Aku (Clearly Not Me).
